Perspective: X-O #12 & Bloodshot #10

Posted by

I was introduced to Valiant 2 years ago by my father. I will point out now, I’m 13. He was roaming the Valiant Fans forum and that’s where I brought up the question, “What the heck is Valiant?” 2 years later I’m listening to OTV, reading all the books, and hoping, with these articles, to get my thoughts about Valiant out into the world.

I’ve read some of the original Valiant, but don’t quiz me. Most of my knowledge comes from the podcast. I will be reviewing the books and posting some news about Valiant at least 1-2 times a month.

So now let’s get to the meat and potatoes of this review.

X-O Manowar #12

Rating: 7.6/10, Variant Choice: Marco Djurdjevic

I will admit now that I am not a huge fan of X-O. I really enjoyed the first and second arc, but for me it dropped off after that.

Issue #11, however, started a fire and #12 is really picking it up. I cannot wait to see the conclusion of Planet Death, in a good way.

I was so happy to finally be on “LOAM!” Thank heavens, and on the plus side everyone, meaning Aric’s Visigoth friends, ARE STILL ALIVE! Even better, Aric kicks some serious butt in this issue.

Even though I love the design of the wolf class armor, seeing it get blown to pieces and paff’d to death was amazing. What surprised me the most was the final words of the comic, “Kill all the humans!”

Bloodshot #10

Rating: 8.5/10, Variant Choice: Mico Suayan

I have really been enjoying Bloodshot leading up to “Harbinger Wars” and this has been a masterpiece. Man I felt so bad at the beginning for the “SWAT” team coming out of the helicopter, they had no idea what they were getting into.

What surprised me the most and caught me off guard was when Bloodshot cried. I was completely taken aback, until the explanation came. Even though it was a comic book, the whole scene where he shoots the plane/helicopter down with a rocket, went in slow motion.

About the time they reached the abandoned city the comic (ironically) started to slow down for me. What bothered me the most was the “1 hour later” time jump. I felt like this left a lot of story out to get to Harada, Livewire and Stronghold attacking Bloodshot.

News

Valiant Free Comic Book Day! Harbinger War: Battle for Las Vegas! One Dollar Debuts! and Shadowman #0! All of which cause the most excitement. I cannot wait for Shadowman #0. The phone app is a huge step in Valiant’s achievement of huge fame (Not that they aren’t already famous). The One Dollar Debuts is a great budget scheme to get people to buy more cheap books that are amazing and make them want to continue reading them. Free Comic Book Day pretty much describes itself.

Well that pretty much wraps up this first review this week. See you next month for… all of the above
