OTV reviews The Valiant #1, the latest new series from our favorite publisher. Here’s a bit of spoilers: We loved this issue. We discuss all there is to discuss in this great comic.
After running through our initial thoughts, and a quick run through of the contents of the book, we look in to some of the history presented in this book. We identify and discuss the relevance of the different time periods in which we see the Immortal Enemy, and how Gilad fits into these different time periods.
We run through the literary story of Grendel and Beowulf, and look at some of the similarities between Beowulf and Gilad. We also use our extensive knowledge of history to place the past battles between Gilad and the Immortal Enemy in their proper time and place.
We also compare Immortal Enemy to Galactus. Cuz that’s how we roll. And we compare him to Babylon 5. We apologize.
We also talk about how groovy Batman was in the 60s. Once again, apologies.
Don’t worry, we get back on track and talk about Bloodshot, killing fools, driving giant Vine alien robotic armor machines, and rescuing boxes on the beach.
We wrap up our discussion of the episode by talking about how well this issue holds up to being a great first issue for both existing and new readers.
Questions we ponder:
- What beef does the Immortal Enemy have with Geomancers?
- Is there any relation between the Immortal Enemy and the Last Enemy from Archer & Armstrong?
- How good of a show is Babylon 5?
- What’s in the box Bloodshot was sent to retrieve?
- Is the Immortal Enemy related to the beast of Revelations?
- What other great historical figures will Gilad be revealed to be?
