Bloodshots and Tentpoles

Posted by

Only The Valiant LogoIn the first half of this episode, we discuss Bloodshot #25, the fourth 25th issue extravaganza that we have read from Valiant Comics.

Sean takes all the credit for having Bloodshot named after him in The Glitch story, while Chiclo just jumps to the main question of the story prematurely.

The Glitch prompts us to discuss the logistical and existential properties of Bloodshot. Who is he? When was Bloodshot created? Does he have a soul? Who’s soul? What makes a man a man? Can a soul be counterfeited? Why does Bloodshot look like Vin Diesel?

Of course we can’t move on without talking about the throwback glory of Training Day, and a discussion of Bart Sears’ wrists.

In Protocol we see Howard Chaykin arrive into the Valiant Comics world, and we appreciate seeing him take on Bloodshot.

Jay Fabares has a pinup in this book! Woot! We’ve loved her work for years.

Next we get to The Heart Of The Matter. We get a little more Kara and Melissa, Bloodshot’s companions from early in the series, and it is great to see them back again.

The Gang’s All Here has a great story that reminds us of another great character. We all really enjoy this short story. Also, we notice a nice throwback to old-school Bloodshot #5.

What about that add? Get Bloodshot tough, and become a man to make the ladies swoon!

Last, Bloodshot’s Guide To… Home Safety! This makes some of us laugh, some more than others. This thing goes to “bat-crap crazy land” very, very quickly.

Oh, oh! We have to talk about the last page, and how it reminds us of Bloodshot’s mortal enemy… elevators!

For the second half of the episode, we revisit the Tentpoles Of The Valiant Universe. We start off by talking about how we define what a tentpole is, and how that impacts our thoughts about what a tentpole is. Chiclo surprises us all with one of his tentpole choices.

Then we move on and feature your thoughts on this subject, sent to us through email and voicemail. Thank you everybody for sending us your thoughts on this subject!
